Accessibility Statement

This is an accessibility statement from Aphasia Research Library.

WCAG conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Aphasia Research Library is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Known non-conformance

  • When adding an article the Textarea elements with Summernote formatting controls do not have form labels and have orphaned form labels (3.3.2)
  • When saving a draft with errors the fields with errors are not highlighted (3.3.1)
  • Some articles may not have alt text as when a researcher adds an article with images the site does not currently check whether alt text has been supplied for all images (1.1.1)
  • The site fails to provide multiple ways to find all other web pages on the site (2.4.5). NB site search only searches articles currently.

Assessment approach

Aphasia Research Library assessed the accessibility of Aphasia Research Library by the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation

Accessibility for people with aphasia

This site was designed primarily for people with aphasia by a multidisciplinary team including people with aphasia, researchers, and speech pathologists. Most pages and all articles have automated text-to-speech versions included. A dictionary is supplied for the site and any defined word can be hovered over (on desktop) or clicked on (on mobile) for a definition. Changing the content preferences can change the amount of information in a summary and the language used. Visual preferences can be changed using the format preferences box.

Date

This statement was updated on 30 May 2025 to include the fact that the site fails 2.4.5 and include references to other failing criteria. It removed an obsolete statement that text was highlighted when read.
